The following statement can be attributed to Sarah Fajardo, Policy Director of the ACLU of New Jersey:

“For years, the Trenton community has documented consistent and grave abuses of power by their police department. We’re pleased that the Department of Justice has agreed to open a pattern or practice investigation, which is an important step toward holding officers accountable to the community they serve. Power must be placed in the hands of people, not police. We are hopeful the investigation will include experiences of impacted community members and bring a renewed focus on the need for increased transparency and accountability in policing across the state.”
